Surface Potential of Methyl Isobutyl Carbinol Adsorption Layer at the Air/brine Interface: a Molecular Dynamics Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Alcohols, including branched and straight ones, have been used extensively in industrial processes to enhance the interface effect. Amongst these, methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) is particularly popular due to the superior performance in mineral flotation. The interfacial behavior of MIBC at the air/liquid interface has been investigated employing foaminess, thin aqueous film and zeta-potential. Recently, the surface potential (∆V), which is a fundamental factor influencing the double-layer force and disjoining pressure, was investigated by ionizing 241 Am electrode. In this study, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was employed to calculate the surface tension and surface potential of MIBC at different surface concentrations. The simulation results were consistent with experimental data. The study highlights the significant role of interaction between water and alcohol molecules at the interface, which is often overlooked by conventional theory.

Surface potential of 1-hexanol solution: comparison with methyl isobutyl carbinol.
Alcohols have an amphiphilic characteristic and are employed in industrial processes to enhance interfacial properties. In this study, the change in surface potential (ΔV) and surface tension of 1-hexanol were measured on the subsurface of electrolyte solutions (NaCl at 0.02, 0.2, and 2 M). The results were fitted by a newly proposed model, which includes the influence of electrolytes and surfa...

Abstract: Novel ether thionocarbamates, O-butoxy isopropyl-N-ethoxycarbonyl thionocarbamate (BIPECTC) and O-(2-butoxy-1-methylethoxy) isopropyl-N-ethoxycarbonyl thionocarbamate (BMIPECTC), were synthesized in this study. Their collecting efficiencies in the flotation of chalcopyrite were investigated using flotation tests, adsorption measurements, ultraviolet spectra (UV) and Fourier transform-...
متن کاملBehavior of β-amyloid 1-16 at the air-water interface at varying pH by nonlinear spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations.
The adsorption and aggregation of β-amyloid (1-16) fragment at the air-water interface was investigated by the combination of second harmonic generation (SHG) spectroscopy, Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), and molecular dynamics simulations (MD). The Gibbs free energy of surface adsorption was measured to be -10.3 kcal/mol for bulk pHs of 7.4 and 3, but no adsorption was observed for pH 10-11. ...
متن کاملDynamics of Love-Type Waves in Orthotropic Layer Under the Influence of Heterogeneity and Corrugation
The present problem deals with the propagation of Love-type surface waves in a bedded structure comprises of an inhomogeneous orthotropic layer and an elastic half-space. The upper boundary and the interface between two media are considered to be corrugated. An analytical method (separation of variables) is adapted to solve the second order PDEs, which governs the equations of motion. Equations...

The aim of this research is to quantify the competitive adsorption of a whey protein concentrate (WPC) and hydroxypropyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC so called E4M, E50LV and F4M) at the air-water interface by means of dynamic surface tensiometry and Brewster angle microscopy (BAM). These biopolymers are often used together in many food applications. The concentration of both protein and HPMC, and th...
